About the Cause

In the 1800s, several Schmidts from the German forest village of Machtlos braved a voyage to America. The descendants of those immigrant pioneers now number well into the thousands. We are reuniting at the one place in northwest Iowa big enough to hold all of us: the spacious Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa. You are invited to join us on July 30th-31st, 2016, for the biggest, most fun, and most memorable family reunion in the world.
