Hanover Tavern is one of only a few surviving colonial era taverns in the United States. First documented in 1733, the Tavern provided meals and lodging to guest traveling between Richmond and Fredericksburg and was an essential part of the county courthouse complex during the 18th and 19th centuries, functioning as the center of social life.
